Kia Ora, Welcome to St Andrew's College

To our new students and families, we are pleased you have joined our St Andrew’s College community and look forward to embracing you with traditions such as Founders’ Day, interschool fixtures, productions and much more. To all our returning students, we are excited you have returned to start your next chapter of the St Andrew’s College legacy.

This handbook will help with your smooth transition to St Andrew’s College, or act as a reminder and an update to our returning students. We pride ourselves on knowing our students and providing an environment for all students to reach their dreams and fulfil their potential.

As Director of International Students and Exchanges I look forward to working alongside you in your educational journey with us at St Andrew’s College.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, queries or concerns. I look forward to meeting you in person and wish you the very best for the coming year.

A Message from the Rector

As an international student studying at St Andrew’s College, you are part of a very busy, vibrant and close-knit community offering fantastic opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

We hope that you will involve yourself with as many activities as possible and really make the most of your time with us. Life at St Andrew’s is a unique cultural experience. Your studies are complemented by sporting and cultural opportunities and many special occasions, some of which will give you a close encounter with the sights, sounds and traditions of our Scottish Presbyterian forefathers.

Welcome to St Andrew’s College, where our aim is to make your time with us as enjoyable, fulfilling and memorable as possible.

Mark Wilson
St Andrew’s College Rector

Testimonials

“St Andrew’s College is a school of 1500 students, but still, each of them brings something to the StAC culture. If English is your second language, the teachers and tutors help you to focus on learning and give you the support you need. The StAC environment is very friendly, with the community caring for each other and helping each other out in sporting, cultural and service opportunities.”
– FRIEDERIKE MOERKE (OC 2017)

“The St Andrew’s College International Programme is an opportunity for young men and women to embrace a dynamic Secondary School, enriched in culture, tradition and excellence. With modern facilities in which to study and board, students are given every opportunity to learn, perform and achieve success.”
– DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND EXCHANGES, Mr Palē Tauti

“In Christchurch, people are really friendly, and New Zealand is a safe and quiet place, so it is a good environment to study. I really wanted to attend a co-ed school as I attended a single sex school in Japan, I also liked the buildings and facilities which St Andrew’s College had to offer. I have made some amazing friends and joined a hockey team as goalie. I highly recommend studying overseas as it helps you improve, socially and mentally. Even though I was nervous, putting myself in an uncomfortable situation has help me in my overall development.”
– YUJI HATTORI (OC 2019)

“I wanted to study at St Andrew’s College, as many of my older cousins had. They spoke highly of their experiences and opportunities and I knew I had to see what they were talking about. There are many cultural opportunities available and I found performing in the Middle School Production enjoyable. For me, studying at St Andrew’s College has both encouraged and pushed me to be more outgoing and to speak to other students more confidently.”
– ROCKY VATANANAN (OC 2019)
