In an Emergency (Police, Fire, Ambulance) phone 111.Christchurch is recovering well following the 2011 earthquake, and is fast becoming New Zealand’s most modern, earthquake-resilient city.
All our buildings at St Andrew’s College are strengthened and safe, and we have well-proven procedures and systems in place in the event of an earthquake. We have also added several new state-of-the-art buildings to our campus since the earthquakes, including the boarding houses, Gym 2, the Centennial Chapel, and The Green Library and Innovation Centre.
Christchurch is a safe city, but you must still be careful:
Christchurch has had a ‘State of Emergency’ declared when we have had earthquakes, bad flooding and bush fires.
Declaring a State of Emergency is a critical part of New Zealand’s response arrangements during a situation of national danger or a disaster, like an earthquake or weather event.
If we have an emergency while you are at the College, alarm bells will sound throughout the building, and you will be
told through the intercoms to evacuate the building.
Move to the Stage 1 designated evacuation area (rugby field) and remain there until directed by safety wardens to return to classrooms or move and assemble in year and tutor groups at the Stage 2 evacuation area (football field). Take the safest route clear of buildings, trees and power lines.
Gather in year groups and tutor groups.
The tutor will take a roll and return this to the year group Dean.
In each of your classrooms you will see the campus map marked with the designated areas.
