Deans

In the Senior College there are Deans for each year group and for international students.

Deans oversee, support and resource the tutors working with students in their year group. They meet with their tutors on Thursday mornings, provide resources for the tutor meetings and help tutors with individual student issues and concerns, which have been referred by the tutor or where the seriousness of the issue demands that they get involved.

Deans meet regularly with the Head of Senior College and play an important part in the pastoral care of students.

Appointments for parents to meet any of the tutors, Deans or Head of Senior College, Mr John Ruge, may be arranged by contacting the Senior College Office on +64 3 940 2025.

2025 Senior College Deans

Year 12 Dean
Lucy Curtis
LCU@stac.school.nz

Lucy was born in Christchurch and attended St Margaret’s College from 1992–1996. She then spent five years at the University of Otago, attaining a Bachelor of Physical Education, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching.

Lucy began her teaching career at Christchurch Boys’ High School in 2003 after managing the family jewellery business for a year. She spent 2005 travelling and teaching in Bristol, United Kingdom, before returning briefly to Christchurch Boys’ High and then re-locating to Gore High School in mid-2006. Lucy served as a Dean there for two years before moving back to Christchurch in 2009.

In 2010, Lucy joined Te Kura Tuarua o Waihora – Lincoln High School, where she followed the 2014 Year 9 cohort through to graduation as Dean, and then began the cycle again with the 2019 Year 9 cohort. Lucy moved to St Andrew’s College in July 2021.

At St Andrew’s College, Lucy is a Te Waka teacher and also teaches junior Physical Education and multiple year levels for Health. She is extremely passionate about pastoral care and enjoys being a Dean at the College. A huge fan of volleyball, Lucy has coached or managed teams for over 15 years, with national tournaments being a highlight, along with any opportunity to head up to Kura Tawhiti for camps.

Lucy has three children – Heidi, Toby, and Skye – and her partner has two teens, making for a fun but busy household. Having her children attend StAC and being able to share school life with them is something Lucy truly values. Growing up, Lucy spent a lot of time running in the hills and playing hockey. She is passionate about cooking, exercise, and general well-being, and has run the Christchurch 10km with her Year 13 class for several years.  Twizel is a special place for her family.
