LogoutWelcome back to Term 2, I hope you all had a wonderful break. The children have started the term settled and focused. A positive beginning particularly given the challenging weather.
Please be mindful of the current challenging weather conditions when parking, dropping off, and picking up your children. The safety of all our children and the rest of the College community is paramount. Please only park in designated areas in the car park and the surrounding streets and ensure you do not encroach on driveways. The children must always use the patrolled road crossing when negotiating Normans Road. Finally, please be mindful of slippery surfaces with wet leaves and when on pavers and encourage your children to walk, not run.
Health New Zealand recommends everyone over six months old gets immunised against influenza each year. If you have a child under nine years old, talk to your vaccinator about whether they may need one or two immunisations (four weeks apart) depending on if they have had an influenza vaccination before.
Please note, we do not cancel sport practices. In the case of wet weather, your child will be supervised/coached in an indoor space or classroom until the usual finishing time. In the case of inclement weather, you may come and collect your child earlier, however you will need to inform the sport coach or co-ordinator. We are responsible for the welfare of your child during this time so please do not arrange for them to meet you somewhere without informing the coach responsible (i.e. parent/guardian – not your child). If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact Dave Ermerins DER@stac.school.nz.
Regards
Jonathan Bierwirth
Principal of Preparatory School
Deputy for Rector
The Preparatory School Kids’ Lit Quiz team took part in the Canterbury Kids' Lit Quiz Regional Heat on Tuesday 1 April – Carter Summerfield, Aoife Forsyth, Lana Rogers, Jacob Wang, Aneel Bartlett (all Year 8), Jack Blyde, Alfred Lash and Jessica Whitehead (Year 7). With 38 teams competing, the morning was very exciting with many tricky questions and some high-scoring rounds. Both teams battled hard and came away with great results, including a couple of individual spot prizes. All the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, having great fun competing against some of Canterbury’s best readers.
Claire Zhao (Year 7) won the March essay competition for the Scottish Book Trust 50-Word Fiction competition, 5–11 age group, with the prompt 'Write us a story featuring a bookcase.'
Please note, the annual Ballet photo for all dancers Years 1–13 will take place in Week 6, on Friday 6 June, 8.00am–8.35am in Gym 1.

The 2025 Prizegiving ceremony will be held on Saturday 29 November, rather than on a Sunday as in previous years, due to a scheduling conflict at Venues Ōtautahi. More information will be communicated in due course.
From Sunday 31 August – Friday 5 September 2025, the A netball team, Girls’ A hockey and Boys’ A hockey teams will compete at the annual AIMS Games in Tauranga. Over 11,000 Year 7 and 8 students from over 360 schools have competed at these games in a variety of sporting codes in the past.
There will also be a number of individual sports available. However, due to the limited group accommodation available in Tauranga, we are unable at this stage to include individuals as part of our official tour. If you would like your child to compete at the games and you are able to travel, care for, and get them to and from the events, then Deputy Principal of Preparatory School (Operations) and Head of Preparatory School Sport, Alex Kelley, can complete and forward the entry on your behalf. In travelling to and competing at the AIMS Games, your child would be included in any activities offered to the tour group and tour apparel will also be available. You should only consider this option if your child is an elite performer in their chosen sport. The individual sports offered are: badminton, BMX, canoe sport, cross country, golf, gymnastics, hip hop, indoor bowls, mountain biking, orienteering, rock climbing, squash, surfing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and yachting.
If your child is in this category and you would like to consider this option, please email AKE@stac.school.nz for further information. You can also access the AIMS Games website which provides further information on each sport offered, visit www.nzaimsgames.co.nz.
