Middle School Handbook

Welcome to the Middle School

I would like to extend a warm welcome to those new to the St Andrew’s College family. To those returning, welcome back and I am looking forward to continuing our journey together. Please have a look through this handbook as it details all the key elements of the Middle School.

Middle School Philosophy

Our vision is that by the end of Year 11, students have the holistic skills which will prepare them for what lies ahead. We encourage growth in all areas of their schooling, including academic, co-curricular, spiritual and social. Regardless of current ability or talent, each child in the Middle School will be valued and will develop resilience and dedication to their learning.

The three years within in the Middle School each have their own theme, which will be developed through all aspects of their schooling.

  • In Year 9, the theme is ‘Belong’;
  • In Year 10, the theme is ‘Challenge’;
  • In Year 11, the theme is ‘Choose Well’.

Within these themes, each student will undertake a well-being programme, which will include looking at identifying character strengths in themselves and others, resilience and personal responsibility, and actions for their own well-being.

Students will embrace the culture at St Andrew’s College by learning, living and sharing the core values of Truth, Faith, Excellence, Creativity and Inclusivity.

Students will learn how to be effective learners for life, with key focus on time management, effective learning strategies, and developing good learning habits.

Once you are a part of our St Andrew’s College family, you remain for life. It is with these beliefs and values that I hold dear, that I wish to instil a sense of care and nurturing for all our Middle School students.

All students are encouraged at St Andrew’s to make the most of the opportunities available to them. Meet new people, experience new things, embrace the successes and the failures, and learn to grow from them. I have every confidence that if we achieve this, we will see students become positive citizens and flourish in an ever-changing world.
